Biography

Prof. Dr. P. T. Perumal is an UGC Emeritus Professor at B.S. Abdur Rahman Institute, Chennai. He earned his Masters in Organic Chemistry at the Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai in 1976 and a Ph.D in Organic Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru in 1981 under the supervision of Mentor - M. V. Bhat. He then did Postdoctoral fellowship at the Purdue University, USA with Prof. H. C. Brown, Nobel laureate (1981-83). Most Notably, Prof. H. C. Brown is the recipient of the 1979 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work with Boron Compounds. After three years of Postdoctoral fellowship, he joined CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad (1985), and later CSIR-CLRI, Chennai (1985-2013) as a scientist. In 2010, he has received D.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from Madras University. He was then promoted as Emeritus Scientist (2013-2016) at CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai. Since 2017, Prof. Dr. P. T. Perumal has been serving as an UGC Emeritus Professor at B.S. Abdur Rahman Institute, Chennai.

Prof. Dr. P. T. Perumal has published more than 400 peer reviewed studies in international journals with high impacts, contributed a book and filed two international patents. He has also been a visiting professor/scientist, invited lecturer and has presented over 125 invited talks on various occasions. His research interests include the fields of Synthetic, Organic Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry.

Prof. Dr. P. T. Perumal has won several awards and accolades for his research. Most notably, Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology Award for Chemistry (2002) and Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) Bronze medal (2005). His works in the field of Synthetic, Organic Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry has made significant contributions and continues to inspire fellow researchers and postgraduate students. Prof. Dr. P. T. Perumal has supervised a large set of research students to pursue their Ph.D and post doctoral researchers in achieving excellence.
